CAUTION! Read carefully before applying decals to your gauge faces.

Our gauge face replacement decals are printed on a long life, high quality vinyl film. It is very thin and does not shrink like cheaper vinyls. Unfortunately these characteristics also mean that without practice, it is not easy to handle. Particularly, lining up all of the openings on the face of the gauge which is crucial for proper fit and operation. For this reason we strongly advise that they are applied by a professional - not by the end user. The following procedure is merely a description of how the decals can be applied with practice.

Metal Face
1. Remove all information from the original gauge face. If it is metal, you must use fine sandpaper and prep the surface and repaint it black. When preparing the surface for paint, be sure it is smooth. The original would have been screen printed on the face and all previous print will leave high spots that will show if the decal is placed over top.
When ready to paint, follow the manufacturers instructions and spray the front of the gauge face(s). Allow proper curing time before application. Paint that has not cured properly will attack the vinyl adhesive. The surface must be free of cleaners, solutions or solvents before applying the new decal. Proceed to step 2.

Plastic Face
1. Remove all information from the original gauge face. Do not paint the face of a plastic gauge. This will affect the ability to illuminate at night. When preparing the surface to apply the decal, all previous printed information must be removed. This would have been screen printed and the best method of removing this is by wet sanding. The surface must be bare and smooth. A fine rubbing compound will make the surface smooth and ready for application. The surface must be free of cleaners, solutions or solvents.
2. Lightly mist with a mixture of water and a drop of dishwashing liquid, covering the whole area. Too much
dishwashing liquid in the water will affect adhesion. This mist will enable the decal to be gently lifted off if the initial positioning is not accurate.
3. Peel back the transparent application tape carefully (if applicable), should the graphic start to lift push it back down then continue peeling back the tape. While it is still wet, push out any air pockets while being careful not to move the decal out of position. Always work any water or air pockets to the outside edges of the decals to avoid trapping them.
4. Decals should be allowed 24 hours to dry before reassembly. If you have pushed out all air during the previous steps, the decal should not have air bubbles. Should any appear after drying, use a sewing needle to extract air with a very small hole. Small bubbles will disappear over time with exposure to sun.
